MANILA, Philippines—(UPDATE) Former Batangas Governor Armand Sanchez has passed away, a television news report said Tuesday.

Sanchez was rushed to the Mary Medtiarix Medical Center in Lipa City Monday afternoon after collapsing during a campaign sortie there.

Earlier, Dr. Isagani Bolompo said Sanchez was comatose and had 5- to 10-percent chance of survival after he underwent a three-hour operation to treat a burst vein in his brain.

Bolompo said Sanchez suffered a stroke due to fatigue, decreasing sugar level and severe hypertension.
