British band Oasis won the Best British Band award on NME Shockwaves Awards 2009 held at London’s O2 Academy Brixton. Oasis had seven nominations, including best and worst band, best live band, best album and best video. While The Cure won NME’s godlike genius award, the equivalent to an outstanding contribution prize, and join past honourees including Manic Street Preachers, Primal Scream and Ian Brown. US President Barack Obamaalso won an award for Hero of the Year.
