Indian government will unveil the Rs 500 prototype, a 10 dollar laptop in Tirupati on February 3 when the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Techology is launched. Rs 500, a government-developed laptop has 2Gb Ram capacity and wireless connectivity. The $10 laptop project was first reported in TOI three years ago with a mission to extend computer infrastructure and connectivity to over 18,000 colleges in the country, including each department of nearly 400 universities and institutions of national importance. India has already given the world the cheapest car, the Tata Nano (100,000 rupee – $2,000), and a super-basic $14 phone.
