US Airways Flight 1549 jetliner crashed into the freezing Hudson River with 150 passengers onboard. The pilot said that a bird strike debilitated the aircraft. The plane was submerged in the icy waters up to the windows when rescuers in Coast Guard vessels and ferry boats arrived, opened the door and pulled passengers in yellow life vests from the aircraft, whose fuselage appeared intact. The plane was sinking in the near-freezing water on one of the coldest days of the year, with the mercury around 20 degrees. At least 28 people were injured in the crash landing. One flight attendant suffered a broken leg and a married couple were both suffering from hypothermia. All 155 passengers survive this plane crash.
