36-year-old rally driver Rhys Millen executed a world-first truck backflip attempt. Rhys Millen was nearly able to backflip a truck at the Red Bull: New Year. No Limits. event in Las Vegas. Millen’s truck hit a specially-designed ramp at 36 miles per hour and once airborne, travelled a distance of 80 feet at a height of 50 feet, landing heavily on all four wheels before rolling upside down. His speed and rotation were perfect, but a slightly off-balance landing prevented him from riding away clean. Millen overshot the landing, resulting in injury, damage to his vehicle and his withdrawal from the event. Rhys Millen won the Red Bull Drifting World Championship this year, and has performed as a stunt driver in numerous commercials and movies.
Daredevil and freestyle rider Robbie Maddison broke the world record for a motorcycle jump on New Year’s Eve at the Rio hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The successful 322 foot, 7 1/2 inch leap was completed on a Honda CR500 in spite of a 10-12 mph headwind, and Maddison dedicated the jump to the late, great Evel Knievel.
