Barack Obama, the 47-year-old Democratic senator from Illinois was elected as the first black president of United state of America. He defeated Republican Sen. John McCain in the states of Ohio, Florida, Virginia and Iowa. Obama is now the 44th president of U.S. and his running mate, Sen. Joseph Biden (newly elected vice president) of Delaware, will take their oaths of office on Jan. 20, 2009.
