Tatus is a word for this sort of crab which is used only in Siquijor. I remembered, years ago, when I visited that island when my hosts decided to cook one for me to taste. They placed it inside a big edible oil square can & bind the can cover with GI wires. When the fire became hot the crab inside struggled and made a loud ruckus denting the can several times until it died down. When several minutes passed by we decided to open the can. But to our amazement, the crab was still alive! It survived by "tip-toeing" where one half of its appendages where cooked red and we decided to re-cook the poor fellow until it got red all over and, man, they sure are tasty...you should try and eat one.
