Judson (Jud) Laipply is an American motivational speaker and comedian from Cleveland, Ohio.[1] He is best known for his performance in the Evolution of Dance clip, which, as of 2007-10-27, is the #1 Most Viewed All Time Video, and #9 Most Discussed Video on YouTube.com.
“Evolution of Dance” is the finale to Laipply’s show called “Inspirational Comedy”.[3] His website describes the show as “combining his thoughts about life and change with humor”.[4] In 2002, he began closing many of his college, high school and corporate appearances with his unusual dance medley. It soon became a “crowd favorite”.[5]
In the video, Laipply dances to a soundtrack that plays through various popular songs ranging from Elvis Presley to MC Hammer and Michael Jackson. During its initial rise in popularity, it amassed over 10 million views in under two weeks and was featured on CNN, MSN, E!, USA Today, Good Morning America, The Today Show, and AOL.[citation needed] As of October, 2007, the number of views on YouTube.com stands at over 60 million, [6] and is the most viewed video on the site. Judson tells the story behind the creation of the Evolution of Dance in a video interview available on staytunedtv, [1]. A recent revision of the dance is three minutes longer including songs such as “Hips Don’t Lie” by Shakira, but no public video of it currently exists. This is a prelude to “Evolution II”[7] or “Evolution of Dance Revisited”, which Judson is currently working on [8] and currently taking suggestions for. [9]
On Tuesday September 4, 2007, Laipply came to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh to talk to incoming Freshman, He performed his six minute routine and commented that he will be making a second video coming soon. He will let people that sign up for his newsletter to watch the video before everybody else does[2]The UW Oshkosh Video Can be seen on Youtube [3].
On Tuesday September 25, 2007, Judson will be performing the world premiere of “The Evolution of Dance 2″ at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio. Proceeds from admission to the show will help benefit the St. Stephens Community Center.
In October, Judson performed at Virginia Wesleyan College and made the announcement that he had just finished taping for Oprah. This filming should include “Evolution of Dance: Revisited” according to the star. It should premier in November, around Thanksgiving.
